GIGAスクール端末配布に関するよくあるご質問(FAQ)

2021年2月より品川区の公立小中学校で配布が開始された"GIGAスクール端末"について、よくあるご質問を地域の支援者の皆さんのご協力のもとまとめました。

FAQはあくまでも当会の調査・見解に基づくもので、品川区教育委員会や各小中学校の公式回答ではありません。なるべく品川区全域へのメリットになるよう最善をつくしていますが、一部認識間違いや情報が古い可能性があります。その場合は下記お問い合わせフォームよりご指摘を頂けますと幸いです。

1.What is GIGA School Device?

Q.My child brought a tablet (iPad) back from the school. What is it?

A.This device (iPad) is issued by Shinagawa-ku, in order to support learning of children who go to Elementary/Middle schools in Shinagawa-ku. Details are in following URL (japanese)

Q.What is it for?

A.Those devices are designed so children may use them for learning in their school, and parents may use them for communicating with the school, as well as in PTA activities.

Q.Does s/her have to bring it back home?

A.Yes. Unless otherwise noted by your school, the device needs to be brought back from school every day.

Q.Is there (any) fee to use it?

A.No. Use of the device, apps, and mobile communication of upto 7GB/mo are covered by Shinagawa-ku. Cost of the Wi-Fi at your home, should you choose to connect the device to, will not be covered, however.

Q.Can I keep it?

A.It is a "rental goods" belonging to Shinagawa-ku. When a child graduates from elementary or middle school, or s/he transferres to a school in the other minicipal, it wil have to be returned to the school it was issued. So please be nice to the device.

Q.Can I connect it to the Wi-Fi at home?

A.It may be connected to the Wi-Fi in your home. Since the amount of mobile communication per month is limited to/around 7GB/mo, we recommend use of home Wi-Fi where it is available.

2.The Tablet

Q.I would like to know about the tablet

A.Apple iPad 10.2 inch 7th Gen / 128GB + Logicool Rugged Combo 3. Please check the manufacturers' website for more details.

Q.I would like to know about the AC adaptor

Q.I would like to know about the keyboard cover

A.Logicool Rugged Combo 3. Please check the manufacturers' website for more details.

Q.I would like to know about the touch pen

A.to be confirmed

Q.What if I lose/break it?

A.When you or your child break or lose the device, please report to your school immediately . Unless it is broken or lost with wrongful intention or negligence, replacement will be issued with no charge.

Q.I would like to know about the mobile data connection

A.It uses 4G(LTE) mobile communication provided by NTT docomo.

Q.I would like to know about the limit on mobile data connection

A.Amount of mobile communication per month is limited to/around 7GB/mo. There is no limit place don Wi-Fi communicaton.

Q.Is it dust/splash/water proof?

A.It is not dust/splash/water protected. Please avoid using it near sand/dust, bathroom, pool, and kitchen sink.

Q.How to clean or sanitalize this device?

A.It can be wiped with soap water solution and/or alcohol based sanitalizer. Please avoid using Chlorine cleaner. For the details, read manufacturer's website.

Q.Can I replace the keyboard cover with my own?

A.The device is issued with Logicool Rugged Combo 3. Please do not change the device's peripherals, including keyboard cover.

Q.There is a sticker placed on the device. Shall I peel it off?

A.The sticker is for asset management purpose. Please do not peel it off. Asset manager will be very disappointed. :(

3.How to use it

Q.How cann I sign-in to the device?

A.Press "home button" and enter device's password (6 digit pincode) to sign-in. The pincode and security setting may differ by the grade / school your children go to. Please confirm with your school for details.

Q.What shall I use it for?

A.Those devices are designed so children may use them for learning in their school, and parents may use them for communicating with the school, as well as in PTA activities.

Q.How can I turn the power on/off

A.Press upper right corner (or just above the camera lens) of the device to turn it on. If nothing happens the battery may be empty. Insert lightning cable and recahrge for 10 min or so; then press the power button for 5 sec.

Q.How can I recharge the device?

A.The device is recharged when ligLightning cable is inserted to the oval hole just below the home button. Connect AC adaptor to the wall scocket and then connect the other end to the device.

Q.Ahout usage hours

A.Except for the study related apps (i.e., LoiloNote and e-libary), internet may be used only in between 7am and 9pm.

Q.Securities

A.The device uses parental filter provided by the school, so children will not access harmful website, mail service, data shaing service and SNSs.

Q.Can I install my favorite apps on the device?

A.Apps are available in "Self Service". Appls not listed in the "Self Service" may not be installed on the device.

Q.Where can I check the amount of mobile data connection used this month?

A.Amount of moile data communication "until now" may be checked in 設定(setting)→モバイルデータ通信(mobie data communication). The way to check montyly usage stat is not knwon...yet.

Q.Can I connect this device to the other tablet or PC?

A.In order to protect the device and data stored within, connection with other PC, tablet, smartphone is discouraged.

Q.Can I use e-mail / chat apps?

A.Mail service cannot be used. Chat can be used within the space is provided by the schoool.

Q.I cannot access the website for study purpose. What shall I do?

A.Please requeste the change of filter, with the purpose and use of the website to the school.
